What have I been up to

As my computer has been away in the repair shop I have managed to get an incredible amount of sewing done.  It just goes to show how much time I spend blog hopping and the like.

On the hand sewing note I have completed the main component of block 5 on the Girls day out quilt-a-long.  There was quite a bit of stitchery on this one with the wisteria being all French knots, as well as a lot of work on the lace curtains and fence posts.

IMG_0258 I also have made the top and back of two cushions from Some Kind of Wonderful with the patterns kindly sent to me by a friend after commenting on it on her blog.  I just need to construct the cushion, but first I have to shop for some giant ric rac.  One is for me, and the other will be for mum as its almost her birthday and I am planning a parcel of hand made goodies for her.

I have also (almost) completed a finish, being my Henrietta’s Whiskers quilt.  All the piecing and quilting is done, I just need to stitch on the binding.

My Sunday morning

Jack spent the night with us, as his mummy is busy having his little brother so we are all super excited.

Its going to be really hot today, so we took the chance to go to the beach early.

Some body knitted and crocheted a jacket for one of the sculptures – so Jack did some exploring

Then it was onto the beach for a swim

After a cool down in the water we had some breakfast

I also decided to get my act together last night and get one of my UFO’s completed.

This one is the Henrietta's whiskers BOM and all I had to do was pin it and quilt it

Its about 1/3 way through and I will work on this in between entertaining Jack while we wait for his brother to arrive.

Stay tuned for the good news

Blame it on the weather.

This week I have not had a lot of sewing motivation.

When I am at work I day dream about all the projects I want to work on, either finishing or starting new ones, but in the evening when I relax I don’t have the same motivation.

It has been a hot week, and today its muggy with thunderstorms forecast so lets blame it on the weather.

I have done some hand stitching on my girls day out quilt, albeit not a lot  and had a mini finish so I guess its not that bad

I am playing along with Cheryl and have joined her mini quilt club,

MiniClub[1]

this month we are making mini quilts to celebrate St Patricks day in March.

Now I don’t even know who am going to be sending this to – it could be you.

I started this last weekend and have quilted it and bound it this afternoon.   See my little free motion shamrocks I am pretty proud of them

I am in love

With Paris Flea market fabric…………….

I ooh’ed and aah’ed when this package arrived today from Shabby fabrics.

I bought it because I loved it, and now I need to find a new project to use all of this yummy fabric with.

They are selling this by fat quarter sets and i purchases the rouge set (reds), the ballet slippers set (pink ) and the Lemon Veranda set (lemon and green).

They also had a blue set but I decided that I didn’t need that one.  Well we gotta stop somewhere.

I am thinking of saving it for the new Libby Richardson quilt that is launched in May

A little bit of country

here is a sneaky peak at that one ( she said it was ok to share it with you).

a little bit Country - Block one

My six inch blocks also arrived today from Margaret and she spoilt me with 4 of them.

As not many of you look at the 6 inch blog I wanted to share them with you as they are so darn cute

Margaret blooms

Now my little sail boats quilt is at Dawns house being quilted, this is my next 6 inch block project.

I have requested pink blooms with a dark base getting lighter to the top on a green background.  This quilt is going to be so pretty.

A lovely parcel–initial heart swap

Imagine my excitement when Mr Postman delivered this HUGE parcel to my front door this morning all the way from the UK.

And look what was inside,
three lovely packages all wrapped up in heart paper.

The first parcel contained a yummy box of chocolates

The second parcel contained the cutest little cushion with my Initial “S’ beautifully embroidered on the centre panel

And because I was so spoilt my partner sent me a little tube of Cath Kidsons Honeysuckle hand cream.  How did she know I was a Kath Kidson fan?  as this is not on my blog anywhere but my wallet and one of my carry bags are Cath Kidsons.

I also adore the cute little hand made card

Thank you so much Melanie

I have already found a home for my new cushion.

Lolly shop

I am having so much fun making this quilt, and enjoying the stitchery immensely.  Its amazing how much I get done each evening.  Last night I completed the stitchery on block 4, and today with the help of Google to locate a bead shop I have stitched the lollies into the lolly jars.  The bottom row will be cup cake buttons, and I am yet to go button shopping so these can be added in later.

I am also pleased to share another lovely cushion that will be posted to its lucky recipient this week, and a matching thread catcher to go with it.

Love the fabric choice for this one – perfect for its intended use wink wink

Girls day out progress

I have (almost) completed blocks, 2 and 3 of the GDO quilt and have block 4 drawn up and appliqued ready to stitch next week.
Here is how things are looking so far – laid out on my sewing room floor.

IMG_0108

I am really happy with my fabric choice and how its all looking, my only regret is that I did not cut around the stitchery blocks evenly so some of them are not perfectly centred with the border blocks.

When I was trimming them after stitching it all seemed even but obviously was not.  Anyhow, a minor blemish that is probably more obvious to me than anyone else
