Some pretty stitching

The lovely Wendy from sew its finished  has designed these sweet floral stitcheries. Each month, if you complete one UFO and post it on the group blog you get emailed a pattern. I am a bit behind having only just completed January and we are almost into August.

I am framing mine in a layer cake using the field flowers range, I think the pretty prints compliment the floral stitcheries well.

I have also bought myself a sign for my sewing room

What do you think of this...... Pretty appropriate
Now I just need to find the right place to hang it.

Barefoot Roses

I am playing along with Quilt experiment with the Quilt club Australia, and face book quilting group that I belong to.

Each week a diagram of a different block is posted and you make it any size and any colour you want and then share this on the fb page.  Its really interesting to see how differently everyone interprets their block.

I chose to do mine in the shabby chic barefoot roses range of fabrics.

I have had this set of FQ’s in my stash for about 6 months waiting for a project to inspire me to cut them up.

This project is called Quilt experiment, and its now been running for two weeks.

Week one you had to make Kings crown, and I could not resist fussy cutting those beautiful roses for the centre square.

Week two was Jacobs ladder, a good design to use the smaller rose print in the ladder squares.

I cant wait to see what block we get to make for week three.

This is sure going to be a pretty quilt.

Guess who

My mini swap partner is……

It was the lovely Maria from Life on the block.  Maria and I have been bloggy friends for a couple of years and it was so nice to receive a lovely parcel from her.

Look at all the goodies, wrapped in the cutest bird fabric, I think I can make a nice bag out of that…..yummy flavoured coffees and some cosy house socks.

Here is my winter mini hanging on my sewing room wall, how cute is the boot fabric.

And I also have cosy toes now too.
Just perfect Maria, thank you so much xx

On my Design Wall

After finishing the acorn lane wall hanging, I was able to get back to my own projects. Currently on my design wall is pink liquorice, an adapted version of a jelly roll quilt called liquorice sticks, which I have added hot pink into the mix. As you can see I still need to make one more tulip block, and then three more of the rolling stone blocks.

I am also working on swoon, but have not made a block in over a week. Here are my first four.

And last but not least I have drawn up block one of the Day of blooms free BOM that is designed by the lovely Wendy from sugarlane quilts.

Wendy co hosts "Sew its finished" and you get emailed a block to make for every month that you complete a UFO. I have chosen to use a layer cake in the pretty field notes range by blackbird designs as I think it will compliment the floral stitcheries beautifully.

Before I start this stitching I have block 9 of girls day out to finish, I plan to make a huge dent in that tonight.

Custom order

Things have taken off quite well in my etsy store, I have now sold four quilts, and tonight inhave just completed my first custom order.

This is a mini version of acorn lane that was a 12 month BOM that I made a year or so ago. This lady wanted a smaller version for her fall decor, and thought the squirrels were a cute change from the usual decor.

I still had a lot of the original fabrics in my stash so I could make it reasonable true to the original, all I had to purchase was the pumpkin fabric that I used in the borders, and also backed the quilt with this. I still had a few wooden acorns that used on this for her too.

I hope the lady that ordered this loves it......

Quilters club

Some time ago I joined a Facebook quilting club, and each state has regular catch ups. Today I attended my first one and finally got to meet some of the lovely ladies that I have been chatting with for six months.

It was held at Pips house, and she spoiled us with three choices of home made soup for lunch, as well as yummy morning and afternoon tea.

Of course we had show and tell, I just loved this Christmas quilt.

And lots of chatting, i learnt the secret of how to do quilt as go quilts, so there is another one for the to do list.

Here is the photo of all of us after lunch.

Pip let us look Into her amazing sewing room, which gave me a better idea for my room, so look what I did when I got home.

I moved my cutting table away from the wall into a kind of island bench, so now I have more freedom, and seemingly more space.

After that was all done, I put the finishing touches to my winter mini. I am really happy with how it turned out.

A (rain) drop of stitching

I really have not done much at all this week except feel sorry for myself with a nasty cold, that saw me sleep through most of the week. Finally dragged myself to the doctors on Thursday to get a double dose of antibiotics for a sinus and chesty thing.

Feeling more human now, so last night i did some stitchery on block 9 of my girls day out quilt and today and tonight I worked on my winter themed mini quilt.

I have been waiting for a project to use the gorgeous alphabet stitchery pattern by Michelle ridgeway of RagTag stitching which I adapted slightly to suit my theme. All I need to do now is add another border and quilt and bind it.

Tomorrow I am off to my first ever SA group quilt club meeting, this is a Facebook group that I joined a few months back, and some members are QBSA members so it will be great to finally meet some fb and bloggy friends.

Lemon liquorice

I have just finished stitching the binding on my new block swap quilt tonight, and this one I am keeping for me...... I just love it.

It's made from blocks collected in QBSA, my request was any block in contemporary prints in yellow, black, grey and white.

The border fabric has little feathers on it, and it is bound in black with a grey tone on tone pattern. I quilted it all over in a large stipple in a grey thread.

The quilt is backed in a pretty grey and lemon print, but I didn't quite buy enough so I made a centre panel in the same lemon as the peeper border, and put an orphan block in the middle that looks like it is meant to be there.

Did I mention that I love it....

citrus selvedge runner

I decided to do a quick little project that had been in my head after I was inspired by looking at some of the amazing projects that are made with selvedge's.

Its incredible how useful and attractive these can be for decorating quilted items.

I simply sewed together strips of orange, yellow and bright green selvedge strips and cut them out into the shapes of lemons, limes and oranges.  (Freehand).  I then appliquéd them with machine blanket stitch onto a piece of fabric, added borders and quilted heavily around the fruit shapes.

I am really pleased at how effective the finished result is….

I had a small piece of this Saffron Craig cut citrus fabric in my stash, perfect for the design.  I have also bound and backed the table runner in this print.
