Squishy mail, a finish and puzzles

Its always a good day when you arrive home to a fat squishy parcel in the mail, and this was my treat today.

Two months ago I joined up with Cathy in her Fat quarter swap, and this month my partner was the lovely Barb.  The theme this month was "our choice" so I requested navy blue or spots as I dont have a lot of that in my stash.

I feel utterley spoilt with what Barb sent me, take a look........

A lovely solid navy blue, a pretty blue spot, three skeins of embroidery silk, one white, and two blue, some pretty ribbon and the most adorable pretty fabric covered notebook.  It was all beautifully wrapped in pretty paper.

Last night I stitched the binding on my French General jelly roll sampler quilt.  This is not the best photo, I will take a new one on the weekend when I can do it in the daylight.

And look what I am starting tonight. ..... Don't you love jigsaw puzzles.  I have quite a collection, and have not completed three of them, so that's just what I am going to start tonight.  Its been ages (more than a year) since I last did a jigsaw puzzle, and when I spotted them in the top of my linen closet (I forgot I had them) I could not wait to get started.
Catcha next time, I have a jigsaw puzzle to start.

Whos bed is it?

I had to laugh when I spotted Billy  (the cavalier) squeezed into this little bed, and why is that you may ask.

Well it may have something to do with Josephine (the cat) stretching out in the big dog bed.
But the question no one can answer is who stole who's bed first.

Pillow party

I am still practising my cushion skills, and think I am getting better.  This is the one I have made today, my first attempt at a piped edge, but I never had any cord to make it sit right.  I am still pretty pleased with the finished attempt, and think that the skinny orange border sets it off nicely.  My main aim in this one was to show case the pretty bird print with a simple square in a square design.  The outer border is a neutral linen, and I used this on the backing pieces too.

The second cushion I am showing you today is one I made quite some time ago, but have never blogged about it. This was to go with my daughters quilt Ooh la la that was black white and red and French themed. It was simply to use up the left over fabric with a simple frilled edge.

I am still anxiously waiting on my fabric delivery so I can make my partners cushion for the 2012 cushion swap.  If you need some inspiration on making your cushions, why not take a look here:

Bali pics -

Blog hopping before I head of to bed I dawned on me that I have not uploaded any of my Bali photos.

This was our 8th visit to Bali, although we had not been in five years.  Therefore not a lot of photo taking was done, but here is a snippet of a few of my favourite ones.

Entry to Ku De Ta at Seminyak (restaurant and night club)

Beachside massage with the lovely Linda

Our home in Bali, bungalow 39

Me on Legian beach at the front of our hotel

DH and I having lunch at Sanur

Amazing melon carving

Cheeky squirrel looking for some lunch

gold fish pond near our hut, the fish were huge

Practice pillows

I have ordered some fabric to make my partners cushion as I dont have enough of her chosen colours in my stash (or the right sort of prints for what I had in mind). It was fun shopping online for just the right shades. I was too impatient to wait till it arrives to start playing with making cushion covers so I had a practice run with one for me.

One of my plans for myself this year was to make some patio cushions for our new pergola and out door setting and I have had some fabric sitting in a pile that I purchased quite some time ago so what better time to get started on this so thats exactly what I have done.

I plan to use greys and greens, and oranges and browns and stick to fresh modern prints.

This is just a simple one with a fussy cut centre on the print.  Sometimes the simple ones are the best, dont you agree. I am pleased with how it has turned out.

I decided to use some of the outer border as a trim on the button hold band, I think its quite effective.

We have 16 ladies playing in my inagural cushion swap.

The "secret" partners have been allocated and sent, so now we can all get busy making cushions for our secret partners. I look forward to seeing the lovely creations that we all make so please be sure to email me.

A page will be created on my blog, and you can email me a pic of the cushion you have made or received and I will display this for you.

All going well, I plan this to be a quarterly exchange.

I am back from Bali

Just a short post to say that I have arrived home, well rested, nicely tanned, but to some pretty awful Cold weather yesterday, that was certainly a shock to the system after 12 days of 26-29 warm degrees.

I will pop a few pics on my blog in the next day or so, and tomorrow will finalise the partnerships in the inagural cushion swap so you have less than 24 hours to register if you are interested in joining in the fun.

I have a lot of emails etc to catch up on but you will hear from me again real soon.

I am linking up with Lily pad quilting for all of the fun on Pets on Quilts you can join in the fun too by visiting them HERE

I have two pooches, Billy the King Charles Cavalier and Robbie the Bichon Freise.

Robbie loves to sit on my quilts when I lay them out for photographing for my blog.  Just look at him posing for the photographs.

Just like this:

So I have to enter him into the dog on a quilt category

I have also made two animal themed quilts in the past year

Oodles of poodles

And Black Kat - previously modelled by Robbie

There are lots of fabulous prizes on offer and the fun ends on Aug 9th.  As I will be overseas on holidays when the winners are drawn I will have to save the fun on looking at the gallery when I get home.
